Blog Gardening

I've spent a fairly boring evening, going through my blog lists and trimming out dead, dormant, or switched to private blogs I'd been following.  I'd reached my 300 blog limit, and had to make some space.

So far, I've gotten rid of 35 blogs.  And I only made it through the "R"s.  There are a lot of S blogs, and a ton of T blogs (all the "The..."s plus normal T names).

Anyway, if you have a blog that has been inactive for six months or more, I may have stopped following you.  If you start blogging again, be sure to let me know.  I followed your blog the first time for a reason.

And it was sorta sad/nostalgic to remove some of the big blogs from the OSR blog heyday, like HUGE RUINED PILE and Chgowiz's blog.

Oh well, the march of progress continues, and there are new blogs for me to find.  And when I find them, now I can follow them.

  1. I've been doing the same thing myself. Adding new blogs and getting rid of inactive blogs. I've kept a few, especially the content heavy blogs which I haven't finished reading or using as a resource. I also get traffic from several dormant blogs including one where the owner has deleted all their posts but kept their blog-roll. Maybe it is just a bot thing now.

  2. I know I haven't really touched mine in forever. I intend to resurrect it at some point.

What's happened to some of these OSR blogs? Like HUGE RUINED PILE?

I went to college with Wayne Rossi who runs Semper Initiativus Unum (http://initiativeone.blogspot.com/), you may want to give his stuff a shot.

  3. Already following it, Dave. Scott of HRP and Michael the Chgowiz are both on G+. So are a few other former prolific bloggers I enjoyed reading a few years ago.

Once I get the blog list trimmed down, I am going to try to improve my G+ circles so I miss less stuff from people like them.

  4. Hey - I've been plinking away at it too. I'm trying now to figure out how to classify Old School blogs - that's not an easy task, what with all the short attention spans. :)

  5. I guess I don't get removing inactive blogs. You can always go back to them if they're still online. And what qualifies as "inactive". If someone posts a few times a month? A year?

  6. I went with 9 months more or less unless I had a good reason to keep it on the list. If they get active again I can add them in again.
