Why RPGs DON'T Suck

No matter how good or bad any individual game's rules, supplements, modules, published settings or the like may be, if you think RPGs suck you're probably part of the problem (no, I'm not providing a link to Mr. Sheppard's blog, you've likely seen it already, and if you haven't you aren't missing much).

What's right about RPGs?

With all the potential AWESOME out there, who cares if something is not 'creative' to some douche on the internet with a few RPG publishing credits?

  2. Who is this Mr. Sheppard and how did he cheese you off so bad? But yeah, overall, agreement is to be had.

  3. Dave--check out "Bat in the Attic" or "Lamentations of the Flame Princess" or "Errant RPG" blogs, they've all linked to the guy. Or just Google 'Malcolm Sheppard why rpgs suck'

  6. @Greg: Lord G was pointing viewers to a number of blogs who contain posts linking back to the M.S. 'article', that's all. You're misinterpreting the comment...

  7. Yeah, Greg, what Scott said. Just directing Dave to find Sheppard's blog easily, not saying anything about you.

I know you found some points of agreement with Sheppard, and to be honest, I did too. I just disagree with his overall premise. Most of the things he thinks 'suck' about RPGs are in fact strengths in my opinion.

Stupid, gonzo gaming, especially when it's derivative of pop culture 'properties,' has always been a lot of fun for me.

There's a big difference between creativity and originality, and M.S. totally seems to miss that point (or willfully ignores it).
