Well, I was planning to do a post highlighting some of my better blog posts, as this is the 3rd anniversary of What a Horrible Night to Have a Curse...
But checking Mediafire, some French douchebag is claiming Flying Swordsmen is one of his company's copyrighted properties and the file downloads have been suspended.
I filed a counterclaim. If it doesn't work, I'll be looking for a new place to host it (and it's still available from the OSR Conservation Process).
Anyway, in the six months Flying Swordsmen has been out, over 1200 people have downloaded it. Thanks!
I had the same problem. I don't think these companies even look at the file before filing a notice. I eventually just moved my file elsewhere.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the blogoversary!
Congratulations and I hope this shit gets sorted!
ReplyDeleteCongrats my good man but mediafire? Do yourself a favor and get out while the getting is good.
ReplyDeleteDude, Flying Swordmen rocks! That douche needs a foot planted in his ass!
ReplyDeleteSame thing happened to me with "The System." Probably the same French douchebags. Just make sure you file the counterclaim with MediaFire. Then in ten calendar (not working) days, they'll release/restore the file (you may have to contact MediaFire at the end of that period, but when no counter to the counter-claim is made by that time, they will restore the previous status.) I think it's a crawler program that does all the claiming.
ReplyDeleteAnd congrats on the blogoversary!
Congrats on 3 years and tell that douchebag to roll for initiative and prepare to get his ass handed to him.
ReplyDeletecongrats!
ReplyDeleteif the link changes, let me know so i can chance it on my end too.

ReplyDeleteNo one uses that service, even though it's free. No idea why.
Didn't know about it until you mentioned it here. Email sent through the site. Thanks!
DeleteWell, I run it, so you can contact me directly if that's easier.
DeleteCongratulations on your bloggerversary - and good luck in your duel of wills!
ReplyDeletewow. thats some bullshit.
ReplyDeletecongrates for the three years.

Got a reply from Mediafire. They don't seem to have a "ticket form" (as they call it) for counterclaims. On their information page, they say they send an email to users who have documents challenged but I never got one. So I used their "report abuse" form to respond.
ReplyDeleteGot a message from one of their people just saying that I had failed to fill out the abuse complaint properly. I'm gonna get off of Mediafire and just forget about the whole mess. Easiest way for me to win.
Love your game and feel like it's crap that some ahole has done this to you. Went looking for the copy I downloaded only to forget where I saved it/what its name was (since 'flying' didn't seem to find it in my files). Only to discover I couldn't dl it again! Anyway, I hope that you move it somewhere else soon, I really want to read it again!
ReplyDeletewhy not torrent it. it is a legit way to put out none copyrighted material. about 20 seeders and you are set.
ReplyDelete-josh
It is in the OSR Conservation Process torrent. Looks like that site is down but the torrent is out there. Get lots of other cool stuff as well.
ReplyDeleteI've tried to get it via the torrent, but man are there not many seeders! I'm not sure it will ever download!
ReplyDeleteLemme know your email and I'll just send it directly.
DeleteTywyll at yahoo dot com. Thanks man!
ReplyDeleteDrivethrurpg has free games. Might you be able to post it there?
ReplyDeleteI think Drivethrough requires at least one item actually for sale.
ReplyDeleteNot sure about the at least one item for sale at RPGnow / Driverhru. You might check it out, or find someone with server space who'll host it. I think you can put the PDF on Lulu without selling it.
ReplyDeleteYousendit might also be a possibility
