I didn't add tracking because that's not something I want to be specific to rangers. <br /><br />For the animal companions, I had just rewatched The Beastmaster before revising the class, so that was on my mind. Some animals may help in combat, but others would be more useful in other areas. Clever players would be wise to not think of their animal companions as free men-at-arms...or at least not all of them. But that's up to the discerning player to figure out. I like how you are giving the character the spells at a level where they might be useful. Same with the animal companions (though even lower might be better) by the time characters tend to get pets they often are more of a liability than anything else.
